Marsha Thomas

After retiring from my life in the construction world, my husband and I moved to Arizona from Oregon to enjoy the sunshine and to be close to Rick’s family. It wasn’t long before I saw a sign for the Gourd Festival. I soon jumped in, which is how I normally work, and started creating and discovered I could paint. I could draw to entertain my kids as they grew up but had never painted except for the odd wall each time we moved.

Gourds have always been enjoyable, and I still do one occasionally. I still teach gourd art classes. But then, I discovered the Copper Splash and like before, jumped in and continued to create. I use acrylic paint on the Copper Splash; it has its challenges which adds to my creativity. I love to paint birds, especially the eagle, all animals and people. I learned quickly that I am not a landscape artist.

My interest goes beyond painting. I love to visit my kids, grandkids and great grandkids in Oregon. I don’t see them often but spoil them when I can. I love to travel, like flowers, love, love dogs and my friends. I ride my bike when I can but had to retire my pink Rat Fink bike for a smaller and lighter model. My husband is my constant companion, and I love being with him. We both belong to The Artists of the Superstitions and attend Art shows when possible. I also belong to the Apache Junction Gem and Rock club and have taken a liking to do silversmithing and creating gems. Yes, I jumped in with both feet there too! One of the things I like most is sitting on the patio in our back yard; watching the birds, listening to them sing and watching the geckos (our term for the lizards).
